The world of city planning is heavily influenced by the citizens involved! Contemporary planning revolves around the people living in the areas being planned for. As we move into the future, people and their priorities change. Particularly, the age of millennials, or Gen Y, have reached an age where the impact of their preferences is beginning to show in the planning world. The planning world is seeing changes and trends in: workplace culture, transportation trends, planning in technology, homes and living, as well as effects on zoning.

As a GIS project, my partner and I chose to analyze Houston County, Alabama. We determined that there is a lack of fire service in certain areas and showed these areas through maps on GIS. We proposed three new service areas to cover these areas of negligence by using GIS tools.

I led a group project to research the specific topic of disaster planning in coastal areas. We analyzed the issue from a technical theory viewpoint. We chose a technical viewpoint, as safety should always be a top priority and there is no room for bias or advocacy when it comes to safety. Technical planners tend to be straightforward to the point, and that is needed in the realm of safety and disaster planning

Below is a report I wrote to interpret the enabling legislation for planning and zoning for the state of Alabama. I addressed some issues and made suggestions, as well as noted the legibility of the legislation.

Below is a Community Report in which I addressed the issues of the taste of the water in Opelika, AL. Through my report, I asked research questions, offered literature, observed and interviewed citizens, conducted a survey, and finally analyzed the data and offered my findings and conclusion for the issue.

Through an urban design course, we were tasked with choosing a city and identifying three issues and strategies for growth. I chose the city of New Orleans and addressed the issues of flooding, public transportation, and affordable housing.

City of Auburn - Recreational Project Proposal
In my final synthesis studio class, I chose to propose a recreational park - complete with a fitness area, a walking track, a disabled access park, as well as a local market. I chose an unzoned parcel of land that, at the time, had no set land use.
